Task 23

YEAY!!!! All done.
Blogging does require some time and effort, (soooo time consuming, I thought at the beginning, but it did get easier as I went along) all those accounts, subscriptions, gadgets, widgets, and searching the net, all that reading ... phew! it's all over now. I never did used most of these tools in the past although I knew about them but never really had the opportunity or made the effort to use them, but now that I was kind of forced to explore them - I am glad!. If time permits (ha! in my dreams) I would like to go back to some of these tools to have a bit more practice and improve what I've learned, and perhaps in the future the library could provide 'interested' staff with refresher training courses (perhaps at different levels such as for the advanced or the not so advanced - I do fall into the "not so advanced") once or twice a year to keep up to date with information technology knowledge. I will definitely use, iGoogle as I found this really useful for keeping everything together in one place, and definitley will use RSS feeds to keep up to date with new/latest developments and technologies and gain professional information in things that I am interested in, some of these tools I won't keep using at work but it was really good to know about them.

Task 22

I read about the different web based communication tools - interesting reading. I launched the Google Talk client and signed into Google talk and added to my igoogle page. I hope to see this form of communication incorporated into our library to enhance our Information Services

Task 21

I have listened to a few subscribed to a music Podcast in my feed reader.

Task 20

My YouTube first time adventure: did a search on libraries and librarians, found so many some useful ones and some silly videos about libraries and librarians.

Task 19

I used Nero PhotoSnap Essentials to resize the photo of "my pet" and I added the image to the VU Wikibrary.

Task 18

I read all the suggested articles about Library 2.0, So muuuuuch reading, so much technology, so little time. What's next!

I did managed to played a bit with searches on Encore, I did a keyword search, I like the screen display, the tag cloud which shows other relevant information about the keywords, the refine by tag on the left hand side of the screen, and adding a tag, easy to navigate. I like iiiiit!

Task 17

I had a look at Delicious and created an account (another account... sigh!!!). Searched for dairy free cooking books, found a few sites, had a look at other's bookmarks. Then I signed into Delicious and imported my bookmarks. I thought that could be useful if I'm using a different PC.
(I have to say that I do feel as I'm intruding on others bookmarks)

Task 16

I have customised my iGoogle homepage, this was enjoyable to do, I added some gadgets, very convenient to have these gadgets that I could be using on a daily basis grouped together. Great feature!

Task 15

I had a look at Google Book search and Google Scholar I think they're both great research tools, specially Google Scholar great for people looking for scholarly articles

Task 14

I played around with Google docs, I created a PowerPoint presentation in Google Docs, and have shared with a staff member. I think this could be a really good and convenient way to work on projects or presentations with others as a group, and a great idea of being able to access documents from any computer.

Task 13

Well, I've had a bit of a play with Google maps for the first time ever, Hmmmmm! not bad. Just for the sake of the exercise I used it to find direction from my place to work, it shows distance and all directions from one point to another, very useful, as one day I may forget where I work and how to get there.

Task 12

I had a look at myspace and face book & reluctantly set up a facebook account. I checked out my son's facebook page (just curiosity!!!) I think facebook and myspace are a good thing for people that chooses to communicate that way. I find it rather stranged asking people if they want to be my friends? and been asked if I want to be their friends (reminds me of been in primary school and making friends that way) . I don't like it, I only set up an account for the sake of this exercise. Once this 23 things thing is finished I'm opting out. Oooooooh! perhaps one day I'll change my mind when my current friends tell me that they don't want to be my friends anymore and if I am in desperate need of "Friends"

Task 10 & 11

I have added some subscriptions: inCite, Newsvine, Victoria University Library Resources and a couple of others and have subscribe to a blog using Technorati my topic of interest for the sake of this exercise is books vs e-books

Task 9

Have set up Google Reader: useful once you set up the feeds
